MARIE WASHBROOK - Programme Director Programme Director since 2001, Marie trained as a nurse and midwife in Oxford and has extensive experience in clinical, managerial, audit and informatics posts at local and national levels. Until 2005 Marie combined leading the Birthrate Plus Programme with her post of Head of Stakeholder Relations Nursing and Allied Clinical Professions with the NHS Information Authority. Marie is now concentrating full time on Birthrate Plus and has worked across the NHS and in Eire, as well as working with New South Wales Nursing and Midwifery Services to introduce Birthrate Plus to Australia. | | JEAN A BALL - Research Director Jean has a long career in Nursing and Midwifery Management and Research and has published widely on postnatal care, quality and workforce planning issues for both nursing and midwifery. From 1986- 2004 Jean was a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Nuffield Institute for Health, University of Leeds. In 2002 she became an Honorary Vice-President of the Royal College of Midwives. In 2003 Jean acted as an advisor to the 'Making Pregnancy Safer' Team at the World Health Organisation In Geneva. | | | JOANNE WOODWARD - Midwife Facilitator Joanne qualified as a midwife in 1981. After many years working as a clinical midwife she became interested in research. Joanne has held the post of Research Midwife at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust since 2001 and began working as a part-time member of the Birthrate Plus National Team in May 2004. | PROJECT MIDWIVES In every study, a project midwife is appointed to oversee the collection and validation of data, assist colleagues with the methodology and to work with the Birthrate Plus Team in producing the local service workforce results.
